*goes and madly practices digital painting skills*
Good luck with that mad practice, and feel free to ask if you need anything C:
actually, I have a few simple questions, if you don't mind!
What kind of brushes do you commonly use for painting and what is a good size for the canvas?
And how do you shade like this? 'tis beautiful X3
I mostly use a flat brush - very basic, but it does the job! I have 3 main brushes that I'm currently using, so if you're interested I'll be more than happy to share the settings for you to try out c:
As for canvas size, I usually pick Sai's A4 option at 300dpi, which I may end up cropping to a better size once I finish a sketch. That size or even higher works really well!
The shading is done with layers at first, then I paint it over. I have the flat colour for the character, then I use a mix of multiply, luminosity, overlay and lumi + shade layers to get the colours I want on top! Which layers I use and the opacity I set them at can vary, it just depends on what I think looks good to me.
If it helps, there's a wip post of one of my bust commissions here: [link]
I used the same method with that as I did for Cinders, so hopefully that'll help you a little c:
