Edit: It seems that a few people think that I've drawn Mew in space! I don't mind if you see it that way, but I'd just like to say that none of the sparkles are stars, and that the background is just a mush of colour haha
I have no idea what I was going for with the background. I only added the sparkle bits because, if I recall correctly, when you find Mew on Pokemon Snap he/she is surrounded by sparkles c:
I think getting to that level was a defining part of the game... The level itself was really neat, with the Pokemon constellations and all!
I'm gonna shut up now. It's 5:30am and the cats will probably have me up in a couple of hours.
Firstly, you've done a great job with this piece! I remember playing pokemon snap, and yes, this does remind me of when you find mew in space.
Anyhow! Mew is often pictured in space, both by Nintendo and other artists. In my opinion you could if you'd like, have been more original about the setting. I do like how you made the space around mew stand out though.
I somewhat agree with Petah when it comes to the background though. Perhaps you could've tried darkening it to the tone of the space around mew. Then if you'd like to differenciate the the space around it and the background, then maybe you could've used a different colour or colour tone for this.
Another reason I kind of dislike the background, is that the colours don't work with mew's. Please notice that for mew's shading you've successfully chosen colours from the space around it. This makes the colours harmonize and creates a sense of whole-ness for the viewer. If you'd used some of that purple on top of your art work, onto for example its tail, that would've looked better.
Lastly I just kind of dislike the brush you used creating somewhat ripped/fury effects around mews "space". But that's just being picky. All in all, it's a great art work, keep up the good work!
I'd like to begin by saying that this piece of art is very beautiful. The shading is spot on, very soft (as it should be with mew) and you can easilly see where the light source is. Mew does pop out from the background and the sparkles are a nice touch (I assumed that mew is in space here, and those are stars). The Pokemon itself is very well drawn. Proportions are perfect, small hands, big feet, the legnth of the tail is spot on and the pose is very fitting. It is also bright and the colour pink is not overused (as it is the case with many other mew drawings).
The is only a minor flaw I was able to find: The only thing that could be changed is the colour of the background. In my opinion it sould be a little bit darker. It would make Mew pop out more and thus make a bigger impact on the viewer. The other problem I have is just a personal difference in taste: The strong black outlines of the eyes don't fit Mew if you ask me. But this has nothing to do with the art itself.
(Please consider the fact that I by no means am an professional artist let alone an art critic when reading this critique. The drawing is awesome )
